Beginners and more experienced craftspeople alike will leave this comprehensive class with a beautiful jewelry box complete with compartments and a removeable tray. Participants will receive safety and usability training to provide confidence in your ability to use the jointer, planer, band saw, table saw, router and more.

This course provides a foundational education on the features and use of a standard sewing machine. You will learn how to prepare The Hawk Makerspace domestic sewing machine for use, change the settings for different techniques, and gain the ability to use patterns. The course will help you build the confidence to tackle your sewing projects. Participants can expect to make a pillow cover, a zippered pouch, and a pair of pajama/lounge pants. For the final sessions of the class, the instructor will provide you with guidance as you tackle your independent projects with the remaining time.

In this class, teens will learn about visual communications as they explore the foundations of graphic design using Inkscape. Inkscape is a free, online graphic design software and a great introduction program for teens looking to take their traditional art into the realm of technology. The focus of this class is learning the design software, but participants will also gain the opportunity to take the skills they've learned in Inkscape and see how they can translate them to some of the Makerspace's other exciting equipment. Using the vinyl cutter and heat press, students will transfer their uniquely made designs onto tshirts and tote bags.

Using the makerspace's Embroidery Machine, you'll learn to design and embroider your own custom patch flair for repairing or adorning your favorite jean jacket, tote bag, or anything you like! Explore the design process by using our library of graphics to create your desired image before digitizing it for stitching with Inkscape and Stitch Era. This workshop takes our Embroidery Checkout Course and turns it up a notch by giving participants even more in-depth training and guidance with a fully completed patch at the end. Completion of this workshop will give you the confidence to take advantage of using the embroidery machine independently in the future.

Designed to be taken with a partner, this workshop guides you in assembling and customizing one cornhole set. The outcome is a great personalized game for your next tailgate or fall celebration. Customization is completed through the addition of weather approved vinyl (not to be left outdoors when not in use). Choose from 3 pre-designed templates to make your own. All materials are included with the registration fee. Note that if you do not include a second person in your registration, you may still participate but 1) the price does not change and 2) you may only have time to finish one of the boards onsite, but you would have the knowledge of what is needed to finish the second board on your own.
For an additional $25 fee you may purchase a set of 8 cornhole bags.
The primary registrant MUST be at least 18 years of age. The secondary registrant may be at least 12 year or older.
