With over 20 recordings to her credit on CD and vinyl on her own label, SheLan Records, singer/percussionist Sheila Landis has been voted "Outstanding Jazz Vocalist" seven times by the Detroit Music Awards' prestigious roster of industry peers and professionals. Landis does her most adventurous work as a DUO with longstanding musical partner, 7-string guitarist Rick Matle, whose rich chords, full bass lines and hypnotic fretboard techniques supply top, bottom and everything in between. Together Landis and Matle fearlessly explore vintage swing and hip novelty tunes, blistering blues, saucy Brazilian sambas, bossa novas and rumbas, funky soul/pop tunes, Motown hits, "British Invasion" gems and their own inventive collaborations peppered with smatterings of poetry and "live" rhythm "sound loops"--elegant, yet with a contemporary edge cemented by over 30 years of playing together.
